We're hiring: Digital Marketing Officer

The Digital Marketing Officer is a new and important role on the Karuna USA team, with lead responsibility for the digital user experience; in particular attracting and caring for a growing & important pool of lower level donors ($1000 pa value and below).  

This successful candidate will drive donor acquisition & stewardship programs, and promote the organization’s work and impact across a range of external channels, including social media, Karuna USA digital properties and email campaigns. 

S/he will proactively create and re-purpose (from Karuna UK) high-impact digital content and campaigns that enhance the attractiveness of Karuna USA among key audiences, including donors and progressive groups. S/he will be involved from creation through completion of these campaigns, including data-driven strategic planning, copy, design, back-end platform build, launch and analysis.

The role will be rated at 20 hours per month and offered as a consultancy for six months with the possibility of  extension. We are a remote team and this position is offered on a remote-working basis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Curate and deliver donor acquisition activities; to draw new supporters to Karuna USA

  • Run digital recruitment activities on FB and other platforms: both paid and unpaid.

  • Successfully drive our monthly Google Ads account

  • Activate SEO activity that will increase traffic to our website: with a focus on donor conversion.

Care for and steward our existing pool of lower level donors:  to express appreciation, update on the impact achieved with their funds, and aim to retain and upgrade their giving

  • Issue thank yous, newsletter updates and engaging emails to keep our supporters engaged

  • Run marketing campaigns (primarily through email, but occasionally by mail) (for example at Thanksgiving) that promote our work and our requests for additional resources. (Some of these campaigns can be re-purposed from Karuna UK materials)

Support creating and dispersing materials that build the reputation of K USA

  • Create high-quality, effective and engaging content and distribute it across the organization’s digital channels, including website & social media.

  • Work alongside the CEO and Strategic Advisor to deliver social media and digital strategies and work plans, focused on engaging progressive and influential audiences in the US.

  • Using raw photos, video and client interviews, craft compelling stories and graphics for diverse audiences that demonstrate the impact of our work.

  • Create basic graphics for social media and digital properties using Canva.

  • Provide Google Analytics expertise and produce ongoing digital analytics reports with strategic input for improved user experience and site performance. 

  • Produce regular performance reports for email and social media with recommendations for improved communications.

  • Support the development of print collateral pieces, as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE

3-5 years of work experience in marketing or digital fundraising, with a focus on digital strategy development, content creation and implementation.  

  • Demonstrable track record in writing compelling material for a wide range of platforms and stakeholders – articles, newsletters and case study stories.

  • Hands-on experience setting up email communications using SquareSpace or similar

  • Hands-on experience setting up organic and paid social media campaigns for Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin with strong understanding of how to best use each channel and the audience segmentation capabilities each channel offers.

  • Hands-on experience with producing and analyzing reports for websites and other digital communications platforms, including social media insights, Google Analytics, and email marketing reports using industry benchmarks and KPIs to drive decision-making for optimal performance.

  • Experience with SEO strategies and tactics for improving website performance with search engines.

SKILLS

Required

  • Outstanding English writing skills for a variety of platforms and audiences.  

  • A solid understanding of current affairs, and the international development agenda.

  • Excellent news sense and the skills to identify proactive opportunities for digital communications that support the organization’s objectives.

  • Experience with Canva.

  • Strong working knowledge of website content management (SquareSpace), e-newsletter programs and social media platforms.

  • Deadline oriented and well organized.

  • Professional and personable; must be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills.

  • A self starter who has strong attention to detail. Someone who is comfortable with building and creating.

Preferred

  • Experience or proven commitment to working in social justice or poverty alleviation and/or international development sector.

  • Strong creative vision for digital engagement strategy, content and graphics.

  • Comfortable interpreting and understanding program data.
